🎨 Canva Craft Gives Canva Its Own Image Model, With an API on Day One

Canva Research released Canva Craft, the company's first in-house image model. It's live in Canva's Dream Lab and in Canva's public API from launch. Craft makes 2K images in any aspect ratio and writes text in 55 languages.
Craft plans the layout first and renders second. It debuted 4th on Design Arena's image leaderboard with an Elo score of 1340, behind three OpenAI models. Canva also plans MCP access, so AI assistants can call Craft directly. Read Canva's post.
The bigger signal: 👉 The biggest design app now trains its own models, after years of renting them. If your product calls an image API for design work, add Craft to your test list this week.
Nobody's coming to approve your idea
People assume that real businesses get built by other people with more resources. It's how great ideas get stuck in notes apps and conversations.
But you don't need six months and a developer's salary to validate your concept. You just need a weekend. Describe what you want to exist and Lovable builds it: a real site, a real product, ready to accept real payments from real customers. Not a mockup to show people. An actual thing they can use.
You don't need anyone's sign-off to get started. Take $5 off your first month.
Discount of $5 applies to first month of any paid plan. You need to sign up via this webpage in order to claim the discount. The discount applies to new and returning users without an active paid plan. Terms apply.
📱 Grok Bot Now Asks for Six Phone Permissions, One App at a Time
SpaceXSI gave Grok Bot access to the native apps on iOS and Android. Users grant each app separately, and the list has six: Calendar, Reminders, Contacts, Messages, Location and Home.
It's the fourth phone update in five days. Grok Bot added restaurant calls on Oct. 18 and the iPhone Action Button on Oct. 19. On Oct. 20 it started reading X DMs, and Android users can now set it as their default assistant. See the announcement.
The bigger signal: 👉 The phone's own permission screen is now the connector layer for agents. If your app keeps its data in the phone's calendar or contacts, an agent can reach that data without your API.
🎻 Claude Duet Runs Opus 5.5 on Its Own Machine and Pays With One-Time Cards

Anthropic opened Claude Duet, a proactive agent app, as a research preview for US Pro and Max subscribers on a waitlist. Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5 inside its own virtual machine and browser, and it checks your connected accounts every few hours.
It can use more than 6,000 connectors and plugins from the Claude Marketplace. For purchases, Stripe's Link creates a one-time virtual card, so your real card number stays hidden. Duet never sees your passwords, and some actions stay blocked even with your approval, such as trading securities and moving money between accounts. Read Anthropic's post.
The bigger signal: 👉 One-time cards and approval screens are becoming the default way agents pay. If you sell online, make sure your checkout accepts Link and Shop Pay, because that's how these agents pay you.
☁️ OpenAI Models Are Coming to Google Cloud
OpenAI is bringing its frontier models and Codex workflows to Google Cloud. They'll be available in Model Garden and Google Cloud Marketplace, with general availability planned in the coming weeks. OpenAI models will also come to Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent.
Companies with Google Cloud spend commitments can pay for OpenAI models out of those commitments. OpenAI says Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner. Read OpenAI's post.
The bigger signal: 👉 For many enterprise buyers, the cloud contract decides which model they use. Now a team on Google Cloud can choose GPT models without opening a new vendor account.

That One AI 🧰 TOOLBOX
A few tools quietly worth exploring:
🔊 Phonon → Open speech models small enough to run on a phone.
⏰ DeepCell → Helps you finish office tasks that have a deadline.
🔍 Breken → Rebuilds your software on its own machines and searches it for the failures your customers would find.
💬 Blooio → Connects Apple Messages, RCS, WhatsApp and SMS for Business to your CRM and support tools.
🔚 EXIT NODE
This week, agents got access to your phone and a wallet of their own. Canva and OpenAI made their models easier to buy in more places. The models are getting easier to get, so the controls you set around your agents now matter more than which model you pick.
